The Burden of Being

I...
Struggle to deliver
On goals I've set myself
Surely I should be further
Than where I am right now
Too much hesitation
Apprehensive to the end
Missed opportunities
Now weigh on my conscience
Now stymied by this
Knowing too well the cost
Floundering in place
All progress is lost
So watch this old man scream
About his failures
His unfulfilled dreams
Despondency so pure
Now older - but wiser?
That has yet to be seen
I can't say I'm convinced
Of what this adage means
Take one step, forward
Followed by 2 steps back
Sick of that old cliche
Moreso how well it tracks
New York City's pretty cold
in January all alone
Coldest Winter On Record
Matches my very soul
The burden, of being
Eyes open wide to see
Merely existing
Amidst calamity
And the world at large
Isn't faring much better
On so many fronts
Pestilence, War, Famine, Death
Pretty sure that's all four
Six minutes to midnight
Surely humanity is finite
I'm not as young as I used to be
No longer hampered by naivete
Only adult-onset anxiety
Awareness was supposed to set me free
Witness signs and wonders
Witness mankind's blunders
Feeling the end is nigh
With fear I watch the skies
The crushing defeat
The enemy's deceit
Find solace in knowing
My struggle is not unique
Brother - I see you!
I see your struggle inside!
Sister - I see you!
I'll be your strength and you can be mine!
I am not alone in this!

Establishment clause
Defied by those
Who would purport
To better know
The intentions
Of forefathers
A basic tenet that has long survived
A wall of separation
between faith and governance
Crumbles each day
A dark time in our nation's history
When so many elected officials agree
They denounce sharia law in the Middle East
Stoking Islamophobic fears amongst their base
Meanwhile pushing forth a Christian theocracy
Through legislation thinly veiled to abate
Basic freedoms we take for granted
All the while distracting the masses
These hypocrites who invoke Christian values
As they interpret law as they see fit - bleaugh!
Strip away their pious veneer
Lay bare their true motivations
It's always been about power -
Money, power, and control
I won't relent
Or fall in line
It's up to us
Call out their crimes

What a time to be alive
Surrounded - astounded
By the sheer audacity
Of belief in fallacies
Intelligent discourse has
Fallen by the wayside
A fool's errand to engage
If trying not to be enraged
When confirmation bias
has become fact in their mind
Any opinion becomes
An irrefutable truth
A nation divided - divided by design
Just retreat to your corner
Enlightenment no more
Now experts in any - experts in any field
Are called into question by
those with no education
Scientific
Facts disbelieved
In favor of
Mistruths received
Not worth my time
Not worth the effort
Proving you've been
Mislead on purpose
Sowing chaos
Your so-called "research"
Already debunked
Wrapped in half-truths
Your so-called "research"
Already debunked
What a time to be alive
Surrounded - astounded
By the sheer audacity
Of belief in fallacies
Rather ecstatic to be ignorant
than proven incorrect
Dunning-Kruger in full effect

Locked In A Vacancy New York
Emerging from the tumultuous New York hardcore scene of the late ’90s, Locked in a Vacancy paved the way for an entire
generation of metalcore acts alongside titans like Converge, Lamb of God, and Hatebreed.
Now, with their new EP …Before the Dawn, via Fuzz Therapy Records, they’re back—not for nostalgia, but as a jolting force. Brace yourself—this is not a reunion; it’s a reckoning.
